More Of The Past

More Of The Past

Hey there! Back in blogland again, with news to share about a new 5 song e.p. which will be in stores on November 11. Featuring covers that we recorded for Thing Of The Past which were left
off the album, it's got a couple of doozies on it and some nice surprises, including Michael Hurley guesting on fiddle and Jonathan Rice and "Farmer" Dave singing along on "See You Tonight", a great old tune by The Wizards. Also in stores is an accompanying 7" single, with our version of A.R.Kane's "Miles Apart", a favorite of mine and a slightly different side of what Vetiver's put out there in the past. I hope you dig it.

Coming up in a few short weeks we'll be out on the road again, this time in the midwest opening up for the Black Crowes. Many of the cities we're travelling to we have never played before, so we hope you'll be able to make it out and catch us. We'll have our good friend Eric Johnson from the Fruitbats joining us on keys and lap steel, and Kevin Barker from Currituck Co. sliding over on bass. These dates are up in the live section. If you have any suggestions for stuff to check out in your city or town, please send word or leave a comment!

Also it's worth a mention that we've signed to Sub Pop, who will be releasing our new album, Tight Knit, next year. So far February 17 is the date, and we're really excited to be working with them.
More touring and other fun stuff is sure to follow, and there's talk of us even trying to come to SXSW this year, which would be a first for us.

More to come....

Hi great news on the ep, new album and tour. Is there any chance of the ep coming out on vinyl anytime. It would be great to see it on a 10inch record.

Nat Whelk | 11/14/08 @ 06:30 AM

Sorry but who the hell are the Wizards? I know in A Thing Of the Past you listed all the songwriting credits on the sleeve, but I have only downloaded the ep, so any info on the song credits would be fantastic. Just to Have You and Hills of Isle au Haut are gold.

Nat Whelk | 11/14/08 @ 06:38 AM

Just got the info from Gnomonsong. But still can't find any info about the Wizards. Cheers.

Brian | 11/14/08 @ 09:06 AM

I'm very glad to hear you'll finally be making your way back to Chicago! I can't wait!

Steve in Aylmer | 11/14/08 @ 10:36 AM

Late to the party,

Man o Man, what a great sounding band. Just discovered the music. Wow, where have you guys been, better yet, where have I been.

Kate | 11/16/08 @ 02:35 PM

I'm looking forward to hearing you play in Minneapolis. It is a great city and I'd say that Uptown is probably considered the city's soul. There is plenty to do around Lake St. and Lyndale Ave. if you've got time to roam while in town. Thanks for the music.

Brett | 11/18/08 @ 02:32 PM

Keep the goodies a'comin! Glad to see one of my "newer" fave bands opening for my all-time fave. Hopefully, some sit-ins will happen. Sure would like to see you guys make the trek to Hawaii!

I saw you guys support Banhart in Aberdeen, Scotland, a couple of years ago. Must have been spring 2006 or so. Didn't know anything about Vetiver beforehand, but was totally blown away. I've since left Scotland, but hoping you will make it to Wales some day. Cheers.

When in Louisville...

Hello folks, I'm thrilled you're in our town tonight. Come back and bring the rest of the Fruit Bats next time.

So, your Fun Itinerary while you're here. You're playing at 21C, which is a great start (you'll see, soon). The band you're playing with is excellent, too (King's Daughters & Sons).

What to see: Downtown. Check out the mighty Ohio River from Waterfront park (or further east from Cox's Park) It is, after all, why Louisville is here. The Fall of the Ohio is neato (a park across the river--you'd have to drive). Anyone can tell you how to get there (or any of these places). The Skate Park downtown (at Clay and Franklin St.) is one of the coolest things in the city.

Bardstown Road is where you'll go to buy yourself a book (Carmichael's) or a record (Underground Sounds @ 2003 Highland Ave or ear-X-tacy @ 1534 Bardstown or Highland Records at 1617 Bardstown) or eat food. Cumberland Brews has the best homebrew in town.

Lunch: I would suggest having a Veggie Reuben at 3rd Ave Cafe (3rd & Oak) or, if you've got time and like Vietnamese food, drive all the way to the South End to have a meal at Vietnam Kitchen. It is worth the drive, and will knock your socks off. Have the J4 or M11. (Take 3rd all the say South, past U of L and I-264, turn left into the Iroquois Shopping Center--google it at 5339 Mitscher Avenue--yum.)

Or go on a distillery tour. Or just drink a bunch of bourbon (Woodford or Bulleit or Buffalo Trace). Man, there's so much. I hope you have a good time. I wish I could play tour-guide for you, but now I've got to go to work.

Huzzah! Huzzah for Vetiver!

Chicago - Hurry On Sundown?

Joe | 12/06/08 @ 02:02 PM

I saw you guys in peterborough NH and was moved...dramatically. you are truly one of the most talented young bands i've heard in the past decade. please come back and do a full new england tour. I'll pull together some barnstompin' ho-downs for ya'll!

Dan | 12/06/08 @ 08:57 PM

You are my favourite!
If only I could figure out the lyrics in arboretum, if you could find it in your heart to email them to me, I'll holler a little somethin' extra if you make it to vancouver sometime ^_^
Much love from the rainy west coast, and thankyou for turning me on to JJ Cale, Hawkwind, Bob Welch, Michael Hurley, Kevin Coyne, Ozark Mountain Daredevils... ... ...

Brad | 12/09/08 @ 02:49 PM

So tomorrow you'll be in the winter wonderland of Minneapolis and playing at the legendary First Ave! and with the Crowes! even better. The music sounds good and if the Crowes play acoustic it should be a great mix.Stick around for the fun after the show. There's plenty to do and see downtown.See ya then and have fun and stay warm!

giles | 12/10/08 @ 08:45 PM

please oh please come back to maine!

Kate | 12/11/08 @ 06:18 AM

Just wanted to say that I loved your show last night at First Ave. in Minneapolis. I felt totally enveloped in the sound and performance. Look forward to your next show in the Midwest, and also the new album! Thanks for everything.

P.S. Awesome t-shirt designs.

Brad | 12/11/08 @ 09:16 AM

Caught you guys in Fargo and Minneapolis opening for the Crowes...you earned a new fan. "I Know No Pardon" is incredible live, and the hootenanny with Louris and the Crowes was something I'll always remember. Come back soon!

Mars | 12/12/08 @ 11:02 PM

Looking forward to seeing you in Denver tomorrow night. Make sure and show up at the after party at Cervantes or wherever it's going to be.

Colt Jordan | 12/17/08 @ 12:22 AM

Please come to SXSW... anywhere in texas really.

Scott of maine | 12/18/08 @ 12:08 PM

You guys need to come up to Portland, Maine and play at the Space Gallery. You've got a healthy handful o fans up in the pine tree state you know. I wanted to tell you, in a recent jaunt to CA in Novenmber I listened to Hurry on Sundown while soaring into SFO in a jet plane, Swimming Song whilst riding over the bay bridge on a hot morning, Standin' on the bart, Hook and Ladder hiking in the Berkely hills, Roll on Babe riding a bike through Santa Cruz, and I Must Be In a Good Place Now on a sunny afternoon up at the slide ranch. I love your songs a ton, and if you get out to Maine we'll make sure to spread the good word. Cheers to the hills of Isle au Haut!

Jason | 12/19/08 @ 08:23 AM

Please, please come to Austin for SXSW. I'm sure you will have many gigs but, just in case, I do a day showcase downtown on thursday the 19th and would love to have you headline. Please email me if you are interested and I can give you more specifics. Last year we had some great bands and press. I hope to hear from you..

Daniel Steinbock | 12/25/08 @ 03:55 AM

Congrats on signing with Sub Pop! They seemed to do good things for Sam Beam. Come back to the Bay Area soon and give us some love.

jill | 12/30/08 @ 12:04 PM

Can i just say that i can hardly wait for your new album to get here!!! the suspense is killing me!

Dan | 01/04/09 @ 09:49 PM

I hear Vancouver is really nice in the summer...^_^

Kameron | 01/07/09 @ 10:15 PM

rays of sunshine.

Wizards | 02/15/09 @ 02:50 PM

In case somebody is still wondering: the Wizards were a Swedish Sixties beat band and "See You Tonight" ranks among the best ditties from that countries canon of great 6Ts ditties. Investigate further and hunt down the "Who Will Buy These Wonderful Evils" comps if you're too lazy or poor to find the original 45 (which has great sleeve).

Good luck!

Ivar Lunnemo(Olsen) | 12/08/09 @ 01:13 AM

Well, a Norwegian group playing in Sweden during the 60s. I wrote the song and lyrics, and also sang and played drums. Vetiver has done a great job with thef song...
